SaskTel Shuts Down Legacy Fixed-Wireless Service in Favour of TD-LTE

Saskatchewan full-service operator SaskTel shut down its legacy Wireless Broadband Internet (WBBI) service on 30 January 2015 after successfully migrating customers to its new High Speed Fusion Internet service based on fixed-wireless TD-LTE technology, it reported on its website. In addition to completing existing WBBI customer migrations, SaskTel said it also commercially launched High Speed Fusion Internet services for new subscribers at 38 wireless tower locations around the province, and plans to commercially launch the remaining 17 planned TD-LTE tower locations in due course this year. ‘High Speed Fusion Internet service will provide customers with more than twice the speed that was possible with our former WBBI service,’ said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO, who also claimed: ‘We were the first to offer this service in North America and based on initial feedback we have received, customers are very happy with the upgraded service.’ High Speed Fusion Internet is available for CAD79.95 (USD63) per month, offering download speeds of up to 5Mbps.
