Telus buys Axia rural Albertan consumer operations from Bell

Canadian full-service operator Telus has bought Axia's residential internet services in rural Alberta from Bell Canada, reports VulcanAdvocate.com. Bell purchased Calgary-based Axia's network assets in September last year, and the transaction with Telus follows a 31 March agreement to sell Axia's residential fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) operations, although no financial terms have been released. In an emailed statement to the local newspaper, Telus stated that it is 'developing exciting enhancements and will inform customers of any new developments as they occur'.

Bell is retaining the Axia FibreNet division, as it continues to develop its Albertan public sector/B2B broadband network operations. TeleGeography notes that in June 2018 Bell was once again successful in winning the multi-year SuperNet contract from the Government of Alberta, and it followed this up three months later by purchasing Axia NetMedia Corporation, the owner of the SuperNet network connecting thousands of provincial and municipal offices, Indigenous communities, schools, libraries, healthcare institutions, businesses and ISPs throughout the province. Bell says that it will 'continue to focus on SuperNet as well as enterprise business and government customers in Alberta'.
