Canadian cableco and mobile operator Eastlink yesterday announced the commercial launch of a 5G network initially spanning 18 cell sites in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The network, based on Ericsson RAN technology, will be expanded 'in the months ahead', Eastlink's press release stated. Jeanette Irekvist, Head of Customer Unit Canada for Ericsson North America, said: '5G opens a new world of innovative possibilities that will integrate seamlessly into industries such as agriculture, transportation, manufacturing and healthcare. The combination of strengthened network capabilities complemented with new device range and form factors will enable completely transformed services and new experiences to consumers and enterprises.' Eastlink CTO Steve Irvine added: 'Our partnership with Ericsson … brings the digital future into full view to satisfy our customers' ever increasing mobility requirements.'
